At only 19 years old, Nayeli Silva-Hernández, Miss Burbank Teen USA, is already proving that success isn't measured by age but by determination. As she prepares to compete for the title of Miss California Teen USA, Nayeli is building an impressive future fueled by passion, perseverance, and purpose.
An entrepreneur, soon to be licensed cosmetologist, aspiring film director and screenwriter, and nonprofit founder, Nayeli has learned that dreams don't become reality by waiting. Dreams become reality through hard work. From launching her own lash business as a teenager to balancing multiple jobs, school, pageantry, and community service, she continues to inspire others by showing that authenticity and resilience can take you anywhere.
For Nayeli, every day is a lesson in time management. While many teenagers are just beginning to explore their interests, she juggles as many as three jobs while pursuing her cosmetology license, preparing for pageantry, supporting her family, and planning for a future in filmmaking. "Time management is everything," she explains. "Schedules and agendas are my best friends because they help me see what my days will look like while making sure I still create space for my mental health and self-care." Her ability to stay organized has allowed her to pursue multiple passions without losing sight of what matters most.
In an age where social media often encourages comparison, Nayeli understands how easy it is to lose yourself trying to fit someone else's definition of success or beauty. Like many teens, she once struggled with comparing herself to others. But through her faith, she found something far more valuable than online validation.
"My journey with God reminds me that I was created perfectly in His eyes," she says. "He has taught me to be unapologetically myself and to embrace my empathy, my humor, my style, and everything that makes me unique." Rather than chasing perfection, Nayeli believes confidence comes from embracing who you truly are.
When asked what advice she would give young girls who hope to compete one day, her answer goes beyond crowns and titles. While polished appearances may catch attention, she believes authenticity leaves a lasting impression. "Confidence, self-awareness, and authenticity are what truly set you apart," she says. "Don't be afraid to be yourself. Your quirks, your kindness, your passion, and your uniqueness are your greatest strengths."
Mental health is one cause especially close to Nayeli's heart.
Recognizing the growing number of teenagers struggling with depression and emotional challenges, she founded Milly's Friends, an organization dedicated to connecting people with loving pets through the belief that companionship can play a meaningful role in emotional healing. "Our mission is to connect hearts through health," Nayeli shares. "Sometimes healing begins with a wagging tail, a gentle purr, and the reminder that no one has to face life's challenges alone." Beyond providing companionship, Milly's Friends encourages responsibility, emotional growth, and a renewed sense of purpose that offers hope to teens who may feel isolated.
One of Nayeli's proudest accomplishments came long before stepping onto the pageant stage. At just 17 years old, she became a licensed lash technician and launched her own business. What began as a way to earn extra income quickly became a masterclass in entrepreneurship and personal growth. Running her own business taught her discipline, resilience, communication, professionalism, financial literacy, and the confidence to pursue even bigger dreams. "Building my business helped me realize my own potential," she says. "It taught me that with hard work, perseverance, and faith in myself, I can accomplish anything I set my mind to...even when the journey feels overwhelming."
Whether she's helping clients feel beautiful through cosmetology, creating meaningful films that inspire audiences, mentoring others through pageantry, or changing lives through Milly's Friends, Nayeli Silva-Hernández is building a future rooted in service and creativity. Her story reminds us that success isn't about choosing just one dream but rather having the courage to pursue every passion that calls your heart.
