At just 17 years old, Ava Ashley Wells, Miss Fontana Teen USA, is proving that some of life's greatest obstacles can become the foundation for an even greater purpose. A recent high school graduate, accomplished dancer, model, entrepreneur, and community advocate, Ava is preparing to compete for the title of Miss California Teen USA with a mission that reaches far beyond the pageant stage. Through her organizations, The Movement Project and Confidence in Motion, she is helping young people discover that confidence isn't something you're born with...it's something you build by choosing courage every single day.
Growing up, Ava faced challenges that many people never saw. Diagnosed with Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder (SPCD), along with a speech delay and speech impediment, she often struggled to communicate and connect with others. Those challenges were accompanied by anxiety and self-doubt, making it difficult to feel confident during some of the most important developmental years of her life. But instead of allowing those obstacles to define her future, Ava found an unexpected source of strength in dance.
"Dance changed everything for me," Ava shares. "It gave me a way to express myself when I couldn't always find the words. It helped me believe in myself." That life changing experience inspired Ava to create Confidence in Motion, a platform dedicated to encouraging people of all ages to improve their mental wellness, build confidence, and embrace healthy living through movement. Today, she hopes her own story reminds others that their greatest struggles can often become their greatest strengths.
For Ava, competing for Miss California Teen USA is about much more than earning a crown.
"This isn't about winning a title," she explains. "It's about showing others that the things you struggle with don't have to hold you back. They can actually become the reason you're able to help someone else."
By sharing her journey of overcoming anxiety and communication challenges, Ava hopes to encourage young people to stop seeing themselves through the lens of fear and instead recognize the incredible resilience they already possess. Her commitment to perseverance is reflected in every area of her life. Ava recently graduated from high school with honors while completing dual enrollment college courses, all while balancing competitive dance, community service, modeling, entrepreneurship, and pageantry. The demanding schedule required tremendous discipline, but perhaps more importantly, it taught her something even greater. "I learned that I can accomplish things I once thought were impossible if I simply keep trying," she says. "I learned to be disciplined, strong, and believe in myself."
Those lessons continue to shape the leader she is becoming.
Outside of pageantry, Ava enjoys dancing, songwriting, playing guitar, creating digital content, staying active through fitness, volunteering in her community, and spending time with family and friends. She also hopes to continue building careers in modeling and business while expanding her advocacy work to reach even more young people across California and beyond. When asked what advice she would give to girls dreaming of one day competing themselves, Ava's message is one of authenticity and courage. "Don't wait until you feel perfect to chase your dreams," she says. "I had anxiety and a speech impediment, but those challenges became part of what makes my story unique. Confidence doesn't come from being perfect ...it comes from trying, learning, and continuing even when you're scared." It's advice she lives by every day and hopes will inspire others to embrace their own uniqueness rather than hide from it.
If crowned Miss California Teen USA, Ava already has a clear vision for how she hopes to serve the state. She plans to expand The Movement Project, bringing Confidence in Motion to schools, youth organizations, and community groups across California. Through workshops focused on movement, mental wellness, healthy living, and self confidence, she hopes to equip young people with practical tools for overcoming anxiety, developing resilience, and believing in themselves. "I want people to know that confidence comes from taking action and not from being perfect," Ava explains. "If sharing my story helps even one person believe in themselves, then it's worth it."
Her message is especially meaningful in today's world, where many teenagers struggle with comparison, anxiety, and the pressure to appear flawless. Ava's journey reminds us that true confidence isn't about never facing challenges...it's about having the courage to rise because of them. As Miss Fontana Teen USA, Ava Ashley Wells is already making a lasting impact through leadership, compassion, and authenticity. Whether she's dancing on stage, mentoring young people, building her nonprofit initiatives, or advocating for teen wellness, she continues to inspire others to see obstacles not as limitations, but as opportunities for growth.
As she prepares to compete for the title of Miss California Teen USA, one thing is already clear: Ava Ashley Wells isn't simply chasing a dream...she's creating a movement. Through every performance, every conversation, and every life she touches, she's showing the next generation that confidence begins the moment you decide to believe in yourself. Teen Vibes Magazine is proud to spotlight Ava's incredible journey and looks forward to watching the positive impact she will continue to make both on and off the pageant stage.
