For Kalia Lowitz, wearing the title of Miss Culver City Teen USA is about living a life of purpose. As she prepares to compete for Miss California Teen USA, the 19 year old is bringing an extraordinary combination of compassion, leadership, and determination to the stage. A pre medical student, entrepreneur, EMT graduate, first responder, martial artist, and student leader of mixed Native Hawaiian heritage, Kalia has already built a résumé that many spend a lifetime pursuing. Yet despite her impressive accomplishments, she remains grounded by one guiding principle she learned growing up with the aloha spirit... a way of life centered on community, kindness, service, and using your voice to uplift others. "I grew up learning the importance of the aloha spirit," Kalia says. "Competing for Miss California Teen USA gives me the opportunity to encourage others to believe that nothing is impossible and that your circumstances do not define your future." That message has shaped every chapter of her journey.
Leadership came naturally to Kalia at an early age. Throughout seven years in student government, she served three years as class president before becoming Associated Student Body President, dedicating herself to creating a stronger, more connected school community. One of the defining moments of her leadership came during an incredibly difficult time when her graduating class lost a fellow student to suicide. Refusing to let tragedy divide her community, Kalia helped lead efforts that raised more than $13,000 to restore school morale and bring students together through healing and hope. Experiences like these strengthened her belief that leadership is measured not by titles, but by showing up for others when they need it most.
Kalia's passion for helping others extends far beyond the classroom.
At just 16 years old, she graduated from the South Bay Regional Law Enforcement Police Explorer Academy, where she trained in public safety operations, emergency response, and crisis management which was an accomplishment she considers one of the proudest moments of her life.
"That experience pushed me beyond my limits mentally, physically, and emotionally," she reflects. "It taught me that I am stronger than I ever realized and that even in moments of exhaustion and pressure, I can still show up, lead, and support the people around me." The experience also confirmed her lifelong goal of becoming an emergency medicine physician.
Since then, Kalia has continued preparing for that future through clinical experience in Kaiser Permanente's Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Orthopedic Clinic while completing EMT training. Every opportunity has reinforced her commitment to serving others during life's most critical moments.
Beyond healthcare and public service, Kalia has embraced entrepreneurship as another avenue for growth.
She founded her own modeling development agency and also works in life insurance sales...experiences that have strengthened her communication, leadership, professionalism, and business skills.
Whether mentoring aspiring models or helping families prepare for the future, she believes every interaction is another opportunity to make a positive impact.
If crowned Miss California Teen USA, Kalia hopes to spend her year encouraging young people to believe in themselves and boldly pursue their dreams. Through community outreach and volunteer service, she plans to promote confidence, authenticity, kindness, and mental wellness while helping others recognize their own potential. "My goal is that every person I meet walks away feeling seen, valued, and empowered to use their own voice to create positive change in their community," she says. It's a mission that reflects the same servant-hearted leadership she has demonstrated throughout her life.
When asked what advice she would offer girls who dream of competing one day, Kalia's answer is refreshingly honest. She encourages young women not to wait until they feel perfect before chasing their goals.
"I don't think confidence comes from having everything figured out," she says. "It comes from being willing to show up as you are, even when you're still growing." She reminds future contestants that authenticity and not perfection... that is what truly makes someone unforgettable. "You are worthy of taking up space exactly as you are. The most important thing is staying genuine, being kind, and allowing yourself to grow."
Kalia also hopes to challenge one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding pageantry... that it's simply about appearance. She believes today's titleholders represent so much more. "Pageantry is rooted in leadership, service, personal growth, and creating meaningful impact," she explains. "Every contestant brings unique experiences and passions to the stage." As someone who seamlessly transitions from martial arts and emergency response training to high heels and evening gowns, Kalia embodies the modern pageant competitor who proves that strength and grace can exist side by side.
Kalia Lowitz has already earned numerous honors, including the Culver City Medallion of Equity and Human Relations along with multiple Presidential Service and Youth Leadership Awards. Yet awards are not what define her. What truly sets her apart is her unwavering commitment to lifting others through service, compassion, and authentic leadership.
As she steps onto the Miss California Teen USA stage, Kalia carries with her more than years of preparation. She carries the aloha spirit, a heart dedicated to helping others, and the belief that every person has the power to create meaningful change. Her journey is proof that true beauty shines brightest through courage, kindness, and a life lived in service of others—and that is a crown no one can ever take away.
